Question:
We have recently purchased a MFT mare that will hardly foxtrot and
when she does she is very rough. When she came here, her fronts were at
51 and 55, and her backs were at 52 and 55. Our shoer put her at 55 all-round.
It helped some. She is extremely rough, she picks her hind feet up real
high, setting them down hard, instead of sliding them in. Is there anything
that we can do?
Answer:
Have your shoer stand her up in front 55-56 deg. & lower her
behind 50-52 fit it full with a size larger shoe and leave the heel webs
long with straight trailers on the hind shoes. The steep rear angle she
has now is causing a higher flight path. Higher is rougher lower is smoother.
When you get her done as I have suggested you should notice a big improvement.
