Question:

Trained Farriers are scarce here. I have purchased a two year old filly who is toed out on both front legs, with the right one being worse that her left. She does not wing or paddle at the "hard" trot. She has not had foot care previously, but the hooves are round and not deformed. She is a small narrow chested animal. What do I need to have her front feet both pointing forward? Would a trailer shoe with a long branch on the medial side help. Can Corrective trimming do it alone? If so, how would you trim her? P.S. Her mom and dad did not have this problem.

Answer:

I would not use a shoe with a trailer. I would trim her a little shorter on the inside front quarter. As she grows she will most likely outgrow this problem. This is somewhat common in young horses of some MFT bloodlines
