I have recently purchased a MFT. He is five years old, bomb-proof and child safe. However, he stumbles quite a bit. I am a timid rider and this scares me. I know you probably cannot tell me why he stumbles as much as he does. He is a horse that was raised around children. Do you think it could be because he is so lazy and laid back? I have not been able to have him reshod yet as I have only had him about two weeks and have not been able to get in touch with my farrier. His toes are long but not extremely so.

ANSWER:

Laziness could be a reason for stumbling, but I would be more inclined to think that his toes are too long and/or the angles of the front feet are lower than natural. Have him shod with flat plates on his natural angle, with possibly a rolled toe.
