I'm about to purchase a MFT which has been used for a few years as a
field trial horse, and that will be my plans for him as well.
the
current owner has preferred to keep him barefoot. I will be riding
him
in various terrain, but am concerned about rocky conditions and any
possible bruising affects it might have. Northern California,
and
Oregon can have some rather rocky soil conditions, central and southern
California can be a lot softer. The current owner feels the horse
has
more stability barefoot, and may have a tendency to slip when in rocky
area's with shoes. What's right, what's wrong, and is there a
happy
medium.
Thank you
Frank
ANSWER
I have found that by shoeing my horses with "rim" shoes, or "eventer"
shoes the horses have all the traction they need and their hind
feet
will still slide when they fox trot!
