About the Bob Blackwell
Practical Horsemanship
(Hoss Logic) Instruction
Program
"Hoss Logic" integrates the training techniques necessary to effectively and successfully provide incentives for both gaited and non gaited breeds. I have trained and worked in many breeds of horses for over 50 years and have used my training techniques on many breeds of horses including gaited horses. I have found the techniques I use are practical and adaptable to all breeds, but can be breed specific when they need to be. Once the student understands the anatomy that produces the desired qualities and actions required of the various breeds of horses and understands the riding techniques necessary to accent these qualities, the techniques taught become a matter of practical and discerning application.
All continued education teaching methods must have levels of achievement to maintain progressing education. The Bob Blackwell Practical Horsemanship Training Method relies on basic and sound training presented in a straight forward and logically progressive manner necessary for continued understanding and achievement. Levels of accomplishment are a basic concept of continued education and are not unique to any method of training horses or riders. In my program students are allowed to progress through the levels at their own rate of speed according to their individual abilities. Students are taught to apply the techniques of this method, with understanding, from instruction and controlled experience gained from the time spent in practicing and perfecting these techniques to the benefit of horse and student.
Group lessons used properly are good for evaluation and allow the student to perform the techniques accomplished in private lessons in a group participation workshop. Private lessons address the specific needs of a student and present the concepts of the program in a manner tailored to fit the individual. Both can work together to compliment one another.
Once a participant has had an introductory group lesson, a private lesson is scheduled for the purpose of evaluating the student and horse as to level of performance. The rider is evaluated as to what has been retained and understood from the introductory group lesson and as to what practical knowledge has been previous acquired and is beneficial to the horse.
This method also realizes that there is no monopoly on common sense and logical training. Logical and practical reasoning produces logical and practical results. The instructor determines what previously learned knowledge is being used correctly by a participant and should be retained, and then those principles are built upon or individual instruction can be used to fill in any gaps in knowledge, understanding, and experience. In this manner participants are guided, confidently and safely, to the level of group training appropriate to their understanding and application.
The goal of the my training method
is to present the practical aspects of the basics of horsemanship without
hocus-pocus or unnecessary commercialism; not to keep the participants
coming back and continually paying in more money into the program.
The student is taught to accomplish a desired objective
practically, effectively, and safely for
both horse and rider. There is no need for participants
to pay for group lessons that could be accomplished by supplemental individual
lesson. In this manner a student or participant rider who wishes
to better or fine tune his or her riding skills and techniques can do so
without repeating a level already
achieved in practical knowledge.
I have trained trainers in the gaited and non gaited breeds, alike. While progressing through the levels of this program does make it possible for the student to train their horses, simply completing these levels of training does not make one able to teach or train other students. Good instruction requires special advanced education courses which include techniques used in instructional skills, problem solving diagnostic techniques, and supportive and positive methods of relating to and building confidence within students.
